The Shady Grove Processing Facility & Transfer Station is Montgomery County's main trash and recycling drop-off, with a public entrance at 16101 Frederick Road in Derwood and a truck entrance at 16055 Shady Grove Road in Gaithersburg. It takes household and commercial trash plus a wide set of recyclables and hazardous materials, including scrap metal, electronics, blue-bin commingled containers, mixed paper, yard trim, household hazardous waste, motor oil, tires, and propane tanks. Only material generated within Montgomery County is accepted, residents must show proof of residency, and loads over 500 lbs are weighed and charged per the County fee schedule. It is open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday (residents only, Shady Grove Road entrance).

Who can use the Transfer Station?
Only material generated within Montgomery County is accepted. All residents must provide proof of County residency, and commercial customers must verify their load originated in the County. No commercial vehicles are allowed on Sundays - Sunday is for residents only.
