South Kent Landfill

The South Kent Recycling & Waste Center in Byron Center is operated by the Kent County Department of Public Works and is home to the only open, active municipal solid waste landfill in Kent County, which opened in October 1982. Residents and businesses can self-haul trash here, and licensed waste haulers also use the site. Beyond landfill disposal, the center handles cardboard-only recycling plus drop-off recycling for electronics, appliances, scrap metal, tires, compressed gas tanks, and holiday string lights, and it offers household hazardous waste disposal through the SafeChem program. Note there is no single-stream recycling drop-off at this location.
